I stumbled upon Bikram yoga by sheer accident/curiosity although now I know, it wasn’t, because this yoga practice is now a part of the things I do in my life and few of the passions I have.
I have been practicing yoga for eight years before coming across Bikram yoga, most of the asana were not unfamiliar to me but I didn’t understand at first why I needed to “endure, suffer or kill myself in the heat” to do these postures? First class, I didn’t understand, second class I still didn’t understand, the next few classes I started to feel changes in my body, I was still in pain and suffering but it was “good pain”. There was no doubt whatsoever, this is for me, I can do this practice for the rest of my life—my body was telling me so and my spirit is right on it as well. After trying to come up with plenty of excuses [some were valid ones] not to go to training but a burning passion and desire to learn more, I went to Bikram Yoga Teachers Training in the fall of 2010 in San Diego, CA. Here I am now, a certified teacher to share my knowledge yet, I am at same time still a student for I learn more everyday both from being up in the podium or practicing on my mat with all the wonderful yogis and yoginis.
